✎ EN ***when apply 4 Brit Citizen if u have Perm. residency card?

    hello

    I am a EU member, in the Uk 7 years, but I received a permanent residency card June 2013, is it better to wait to 12 months or apply now?

    I am confused as some people says when I have a residency card then I have to wait further 12 months and then I SEND ONLY THAT CARD AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS FOR THESE 12 MONTHS, not for those 5 years, which were checked when I applied for permanent residency card as EEA3
    - is that right? I cant find this information on any HO website


    some people says if I have been living in the UK already 6 years, I dont have to wait those 12 months after getting residency card, I can apply now, but I have to send them SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS FOR 6 YEARS?

    The basic rule is indeed 5 years of residency in the UK to obtain your Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and also a 1 year wait after obtaining an ILR. Therefore in practice for most people this means a minimum of 6 years, not 5 as many think.

    And that rule applies too for European Citizens. Therefor I can confirm that you need to wait for 1 year (i.e. until June 2014) to qualify for Citizenship.

    The only exception is for spouses of British nationals (only 3 years required and no need for ILR).

    i aasked for some other thing

    I have been living in the UK for 7 years, I received permanent resident card on 1st June 2013

    so I can apply for now (june 2013, even if rule says 12 months of holding that card) as I have been living in the Uk for 7 years

    but my question was when I wait till 1st june 2014 (it means i will be a holder of thatc ard for 12 months), then do I have to send all documents again for 5 years +12 months, or only for 12 months as 5 years were checked with resident card
