UK fiance visa processing times???

Postby anpan29 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:42 pm

My fiance is Australian and applying for his UK fiance visa at the British Embassy in Canberra. Does anybody know the current processing times for this??

Our case officer at the visa company we are using originally said a few weeks, but it is now apparently 12 weeks, which seems like a very long time for a fiance visa and messes up our plans!

Could anybody shed any light? or has anybody had a fiance visa approved from there recently??

Any help is much appreciated!

MODS:: the quick reply function is broken.

The Canberra UK Embassy website's FAQ states "3 to 4 weeks at the moment". You might do well to bypass your visa company and contact them directly on:

Phone: 1902 941 555 (Information line)
Callers to this information line are charged at a rate of $1.15 cents per minute to listen to recorded information and $2.60 per minute to talk to a consultant. Greedy sods.

If that wasn't profiteering enough, there's also:
Phone: 1300 367 066 (Information line)
There is a $7.10 charge for this service, which will be charged to your credit card.

The website's here: http://bhc.britaus.net/Visas/visadefault.asp

I assume you're a British citizen: you may be able to find out something from the FCO in the UK. Visa applications from some parts of the world (IIRC Asia Pacific/Oceania) are sent back to London for processing.

Hi!
just thought I would post to say I rang the bhc in Canberra (as kindly suggested in this forum!) to enquire about fiance visa processing times and apparently it is 5 - 10 working days!
NOT the 12 weeks that my visa company told me it would be (where do they get their info!?!)
And while on the phone the consultant looked up my fiance's name on the system and told me his visa had already been approved and printed and his passport is on its way back to him!
Nearly fell off my chair! Was shocked to say the least and extremely happy!
Have no faith in these visa companys now that charge an arm and a leg and seem to get their facts quite often wrong!
Thanks for the advice x

Quick reply still doesn't work for me: the quick reply button just pushes me to the normal "post reply" screen rather than entering the message. Ho hum...

anpan, thanks for the update - glad it's worked out well for you :) I'm not familiar with what Australian visa companies do; however those in the UK for travel to some countries simply ensure that one doesn't have to turn up in person to make the application. I've not found any that would add quite such a delay into the process - typically only a couple of days for the post.
