question about US immigration

Postby maks » Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:57 pm

Hi!

I'm german, having lived in France for the last 13 years. Now I'll very likely immigrate in the US, beeing in the process of getting hired by a company in New York. From what I know through my own researches, I think that this company will get me a H1B visa. I want to bring my french fiance with me to the US, but I'm not very clear about the requirements to do so. I heard that spouses can come with a H4 visa - we live together for more than one year, and I know that for Canada this is enough to have a common law partner status. How is this handled in the US, would we have to get married before? Also, as I heard/read, my fiance wouldn't have the right to work with a H4 visa, but she'd want to. What would be the possibilities for us/her to be able to work in the US as well?

Thanks! :)

from what I read on US immigration site living together or even concubinage is not accepted for your fiancee. Sh has to be married to you to become eligible.
