    Hi

I've got a problem with a paper for the Inland Revenue and I hope somebody can help me...!

    Here is the problem:

I've worked in England for 1 year and I've paid taxes, then I've come back to France this year and I intend to stay there.

I know I can get back a part of the money I've given to the Inland Revenue: in order to do this, I have to send back a paper, the P45, and another paper from the Inland Revenue. The problem is The P45 contains 3 sheets, 2 of them must be given to my next english employer if I work again in England, and I must keep the 3rd sheet for me because I won't have any other copy.

So which part do I have to send back to the Inland Revenue???
    Please help me!!

    Cheers

    Mag

You will find that information on the Inland Revenue website.
    http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/faqs/general.htm

    They say:
"...ask for a repayment claim form P50 which you should complete and return to your Tax Office with your P45 Parts 2 and 3 if you have them."

The part 1 will be use as your proof, I give you the advice to keep a copy of all documents that you send to the IR in case you need them again.

I just came back from London where i have spent a year /2. I got a P45 dated from April 2002 but dont have one from this year (i worked in the same company from April 2002 to December 2002 and in an other one from January to June). The amount of taxes i should have back in the P45 is about 3-400 pounds, should i get more than that ? I have worked 9 months and some friends less than that for a bigger taxes amount. I got all my pay slips if they want it. My question is : should i have more than 400 pounds because i worked 9 months ? Am i clear (i am not sure !!) ?
Do you have an email adress where i can contact someone ? Is there a paper to fill in to have the tax back ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Deedee,
First of all: have you ever registered with Inland Revenue and get a National Insurance Number?

    You have 2 options:
1- You have registered to get a NIN during the period
You should have a P60 form that is issued to employees by their employer at the end of each tax year, which runs from April 6 one year to April 5 the next. It shows your pay for the previous tax year and the amount of tax and National Insurance contributions that have been deducted. It will also show any contributions you've made to a company pension scheme. You'll need this form if you get a tax return to fill in.

If you've got one, you can claim some tax back for the period before where you were with a temporary number (or emergency number).
In that case you need to send the P60 that covers that period to IR with a letter. You will find an exemple of the document to send here: <http://www.easyexpat.com/london_en/work_taxes.htm>

Using the method explained on that page, you should be able to calculate your tax. By deducting what you've paid already you will find the amount that you should get back. You can also go there: <http://www.1stcontact-tax-refunds.co.uk/>

2- You have never been registered and have just got the P45 for each time you finished your work period
In that case, when you leave work you get a form P45 from your employer and you may be entitled to a tax repayment.
You must ask for a repayment claim form P50 which you should complete and return to your Tax Office with your P45 Parts 2 and 3 if you have them.
You should get a refund within a month.
You should be able to calculate you tax refund the same way as explained in 1/.

    Hi,

I can't remember how much I got back from the inland revenue (I worked 1 year), but it was several 100 pounds (maybe 600 or 700 pounds). of course it depends on your work time length and your pay. but I guess it should be several 100 pounds.
concerning your P45 qestion, sorry but I can't help you.
    Good luck !
