    Hi everyone,

I am posting here to recommend a Warsaw-based lawyer that helped me get my Polish citizenship confirmation, birth certificate and passport all from my home in San Francisco.

His name is Lukasz Piotrowski and his email address is <l.piotrowski@spoland.pl>

    About my particular situation:

My grandparents were both born in Poland. When the war broke out in 1939, my grandfather was some kind of Polish trade diplomat stationed in the USA and my grandmother was living with her mother and their two small children (my aunt and uncle) in Warsaw. As things got worse in Warsaw, my grandfather was able to bring the whole family out to America.

My mother was born in Connecticut (USA), went to school in New York and never even learned Polish. I only started learning Polish as I researched my family history and got more interested in getting the citizenship/passport.

Anyway, after a couple thousand dollars in legal fees & a few international parcels back and forth, I was able to get confirmation of my mother's citizenship and thusly my own. After I had the birth certificate, I went to my nearest Polish Consulate (in Los Angeles) and applied for the passport which arrived on my doorstep on Christmas Eve this year!!

The whole process took less than a year from start to finish and I am very happy with Mr. Piotrowski's service. He speaks very good English and was almost always available during normal business hours (adjusted for time difference) when I Skyped him with any questions I had. If you are looking for a good citizenship lawyer, he is the man you want.

    ------

    So HERE is my question:

I have the administrative confirmation, the birth certificate and the passport. NOW I am interested in getting the health insurance card. I still live in San Francisco but plan on relocating to the south of France in the next 12 months. Does anyone know the best way to get the health insurance card & if it's immediately necessary for employment in the E.U.?

If I get it now, will it cover health costs of living in the USA? Can I get it in the USA or wait until I'm in Europe...any/all feedback is appreciated.

Health insurance does work that way in Europe. This should be mostly correct based on my understanding of how Europe works.

You would be entitled to Polish health insurance (which is some type of nationally subsidized system) if you were a resident of Poland (living there and paying taxes to Poland). you cannot get coverage from Poland just because you are a citizen living elsewhere.

If you relocate to France, then you would be working under the French system (as you would be paying French national insurance payments).

EHIC (or EKUZ for Poland, I think) in Poland does not cover care in the US. It covers emergency care at public facilities in certain European countries. And, again, these are for residents traveling abroad temporarily, not citizens living permanently abroad.

As for moving to France. You have a right of movement (EU nonsense). You can work there as well. You have to be able to support yourself though. you will get a French social security number when you are employed (your employer will do it for you; such is the law). the previously mentioned EU nonsense does not allow foreigners to sponge off of other countries.

Why do you say that the EU right to movement (extended to E.E.E countries with Schengen) is a nonsense ?

Regarding life in France, I would recommend our free guide for expatriates in France.
