No you don't. You are already covered with NHS. If you want additional coverage (also additional expenses), then sign up with private medical insurance.

Registration with the NHS is very easy. You just go to a GP (who is taking on new patients) and fill in a form. You are covered from this point onwards, and you get a card a few weeks later. You probably need to show proof of address, which is a utility bill or a bank statement showing your address. Theoretically you also have to prove that you intend to stay in the UK for at least 6 months, but that is rarely ever checked.
