My UK-citizen fiance and I are getting married in the US about 3 months prior to when I plan to leave the US to move to the UK. From what I have read online, I think that before I come to the UK to settle, I need to fill out a settlement form application (VAF2) to get a Visa and then once I am living there, I need to fill out a FLR(M) form in order to becmoe eligible to work, but I am not positive this is the correct procedure. Can someone point me in the right direction to know exactly what steps I need to take? I find the UK goverment site information pretty confusing on this topic.

You apply for entry as the spouse of a UK citizen. You will apply online and pay online. You can make an appointment at some consulates, but you must use the consulate that covers your area of the US. You do not need an appointment, but it's an option. The application is here:

    http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow. ... =Apply+Now

Supporting documents can be sent via FedEx or you can hire a courier. You can also bring them if you have an appointment. You must have the required documents (usually your passport, your spouse's passport or certified copy, birth certificates, bank account statements, pay stubs, proof of accommodation, a letter from the spouse supporting your application, items that prove your relationship, marriage certificate, and anything they ask for or may support your application). If your application is approved, you will receive your FLR and entry clearance visa (stamped in your passport). You will be able to work when you get into the country. You won't have recourse to public funds, but you will have the right to healthcare.

You should apply after you get married. Make sure you enter the UK on or within the 28 days following the valid date of the visa (you will be able to pick the date you plan to travel, but I think it is a 3 month in the future limit). You should make sure you research the financial and accommodation requirements, and to find out suggestions for supporting evidence that your relationship is legit, you've met, and you plan to live together in the UK on a permanent basis.

Thanks V.. I actually applied for a Fiance visa about a year ago with the intent of going to the UK and being married there this past spring, but I had some family issues come up that ended up requiring me to stay in the US longer, so we moved our wedding to this coming winter instead. I was approved for the fiance visa quite easily but it has since expired in May. We have decided getting married stateside was a better option for us and hence I didn't apply to renew it. That said, I don't see that getting approved for the spousal visa once we're married will be an issue given the fact I got approved the fiance visa before, we've been together going on 3 years, he's completely financially solvent, it's a legit and documented relationship, etc. but I just wanted to make sure I understand the process now that the wedding is stateside, and also I want to start working as soon as possible so I don't go crazy!

    Thanks again!
