    I have spent the past month and a half looking for jobs. I've applied at several places and all I get is rejection. I finally turned to Recruitment Agencies.

    What I've found is astonishing. I've had several Agencies say that they will allow me to Register. But they refuse to help me find work or inform me of possible jobs because I do not have a National Insurance Number.

    My question is whether or not its legal for them to do this to me. I know I am legally allowed to work her as the Spouse of a UK citizen, yet they refuse to do anything other than let me register. They wont give me leads, they wont answer any of my questions anymore.

    Help please! :(

    No, you can perfectly work in the UK without a NIN. But you will have more tax to pay as they usually assess your right tax bucket using your NIN.

    is there a way that I can show that I can receive paychecks without a NIN, until I can receive one, like a government website or something?

    I've searched and searched but I'm not coming up with much.

    Yes you can work without NIN but most people will ask you for it.
    You can make one up like this,been done before ;)

    TN DD MM YY F/M

    It means temporary number your date month and year of birth and sex, M or F.
    Once you start working you can regulate situation with tax office/DSS.

    I've read that inside and out :p

    First place I looked lol. I've got my NIN appointment set for September 4th, and I should have it soon after then, i'm told. But I just wanted to know if it was legal for them to withhold me from potential jobs and things.

    They seem to be really unfair with me lol

    From my experience

    Actually i worked in Accounts for a UK recruitment company (the support and finance of the co was based in Ireland) and the laws have changed and NI numbers are required to be paid. End of story, temporary numbers don't work. As for being placed with a recruitment agency i'm would imagine it shouldn't be required for just registering, at least not at the one i worked for. Being paid is different.

    At least thats what i gathered listening to the payroll folks sitting next to me. :) Made me glad i'm not there anymore as in 2 years off and on in the UK, i never bothered to get one.
