    Hi

I am a Swiss National living in South Africa and would like to relocate to Scotland early next year. Since I married a South African woman in March of this year I am told she needs to apply for an EEA Family Permit to be able to join me in Scotland.

Having done a lot of research (with limited success from talking directly with the British Embassy) I have found that she needs to prove that she has enough funds to support herself, work, medical cover, accomodation and a valid passport. I have also be advised that I should write a "letter of sponsorship/invitiation" to the Embassy stating that I want to go over with her.

I would like some clarification on the following (which I can't find in any posts on this forum thus far):

    1. Do I need to prove my relationship to my wife beyond a full
    marriage certificate?

    2. Do I or she need to have "sufficient funds" in one of our bank accounts
for any specific time (they want 3 months statements)?

    3. If the required funds were sponsored by a 3rd party, would that be
    accepted by the British Embassy?

    4. A local SA/UK agency has given us a letter as proof that they will
secure us employment in Scotland (live-in hotel work) before our
departure in January. Since both the work and accomodation will
only be arranged by the agency around December, would that cause
any issues with the British Embassy?

    5. Besides the above & both our Passports, what else would we need
to include in the VAF1 application?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Damian

What if my bank statement (3 months) only shows the funds being available for the past say month or two - surely the Embassy will ask where I got the cash from? I would imagine you would then show them your salary slips or proof of car sale, etc - if that were the case.

In my case, I would have thought I would have to show that I was sponsored - if they were to ask?

With regards to the work/accomodation - would that be an issue since it is, at this stage, only "guaranteed" yet not finalized (no physical job or residence address)?

EEA Family Permit for South Africans

    Hi,

I am a South African, married to a Lithuanian citizen. We have been married for 3 years. We have a daughter, who is a Lithuanian citizen.

My wife is in her final year of studies and will graduate in December 2006. We are planning on relocating to the UK. I was informed by the British Embassy that all visa applications are processed by DHL Visa Services in South Africa. I contacted them and was forwarded the application forms with a checklist of criteria that needs to be met when applying for the permit. I have tried to enquire about a few issues with DHL but was met with unsatisfactory answers. Some of my issues...
    1) Which parts of the VAF1 form do I need to complete? Some parts are irrelevant to me...
    2) I have read from other posts on this site that financial stability needs to be proved by way of bank statements (That was not on the checklist)
    3) We intend relocating in January 2007, can we apply now or is there a validity period of the permit?
    4) Must my wife have a job un the UK before I can apply for the permit?
    5) Can I secure employment and enter with my wife who can subsequently apply for employment.
    6) How long is the family permit valid for?

Thanks in advance for your input!
