    Can anyone help please?
    I am planning to move from the UK to the US early next year, i have been looking into visas and working permits,but my head is spinning with it all, i was wondering if anyone could give any advice,no matter how small, i'm not sure whether i should go over on a visiting visa or apply for a working permit before i go. I would be looking for work in the healthcare field, but i'm not a qualified nurse or doctor, just an assistant. I have someone i'm going over there too, but just need any kind of help and advice.
    Thankyou in advance

    HI, I guess it seriously depends on what state you are going to live in and how soon you plan to move. Right now, in general, the us economy is not doing great and job hiring is kinda on freeze, especially in the healthcare industry if you don't have a masters and or certification, I also studied in this field, but I am now trying to move to Europe :p. I am not sure exactly how our laws here are set up for work visas, but I believe you can come stay for up to 3 months on a regular passport, look for work then get the visas/permit. I can say one thing, it is easier to look for work online for american jobs. Have you gotten any offers or done s resume and applications yet? It is probably best to know what company you'd like to work for then come over, greet them and try to work your way into the company that way, see what they might have available. Good luck, I hope I was of some help, but I saw no on posted to you and I know that can be frustrating as well. :wave:

    Hi Amber,
    rayc had a similar question on "moving from us-uk" which I posted a message for.

    I was on the US tourist visa (good for 6 months) and looking for work in UK healthcare, i.e., NHS. The NHS would love to hire Americans to help bring them up to date but, when I spoke to the Human Resources Director, she explained to me that HOME OFFICE (immigration) won't allow it anymore unless you are a doctor or a nurse. She said they had recently tried to no avail. (FYI you are not allowed to work on a tourist visa)

    As of May 2004, new immigration guidelines were set into place in the UK as more countries were added into the European Union.

    Please check out the Home Office website and see if you qualify under highly skilled immigrants.

    <http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk>

    Our solicitor (lawyer) in the UK referred us to the site. If you can find a company willing to hire you and help get your work permit, KUDOS to you! Home office can always deny it though so I would check with them first.

    Hope I wasn't too much of a kill-joy for you. It has been a trying experience for me and I wish you the best of luck.

    ~K
