Moving to Montreal in April!

Postby wellwellwell » Sun Jan 02, 2011 5:48 pm

Hi! I am a 26yr old female planning to move to Montreal in April and was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat, I am planning on getting a study permit to learn french at one of the language schools since I am a beginner and hopefully I will be able to find a job as well after I move and am more fluent in french. I won't know anyone there too, so if anyone is planning to move there I would love to talk or meet up once there!

Very exciting about your move- congrats! Have you already checked out the easy expat guide to Montreal (http://www.easyexpat.com/en/montreal.htm)? It offers info & resources on the things you are asking about.
There is info on visa's: http://www.easyexpat.com/en/montreal/de ... t-visa.htm
& lother helpful info.

"A study permit is a temporary visa from
1 to 3 years generally and which gives you the right to study and work on-campus. It is required by universities on the registration day.
Procedure:
The prospective student will need to apply to Immigration Canada.http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.html
The process requires little supporting documents, is straight forward and fast. This depends on your local Canadian embassy but usually it is no more than 6 weeks "

Also, someone else posted to the forum that was moving to Montreal : moving-montreal-soon-need-help-t24324.html#p61366

Enjoy!

I'm also (almost definitely) moving around the same time for my husband's job. I'm in my 30s and studied French through college and grad school but forgot much of it since then. I'd also like to enroll at a language school to brush up and meet people since we don't really know anyone in Montreal.

Hi there,

I'm a 23 year old, female, MSc student and I just moved to Montreal in January. I haven't met a lot of people since I spend quite a bit of time in the lab, so I'm pretty much in the same boat as you may be when you move here. I can speak a little bit of french but, like you, I want to take a french language course in the spring/summer to brush up on it. It'd be great to chat with you over this website or email, and meet you when you get here :)
What sort of work do you plan on doing when you get here?

Hi
I moved to Montreal a year ago, I'm taking french classes in Concordia university.
I find it hard to practice french with native speakers.
I would like to meet beginners in french to practice french together .

Looking forward to hear from you

My name is Patrick and I'm 21 years old. I visite Montreal from February till the end of July.
I come from Switzerland and came to Montreal to emprove my english and maybe learn a little bit french. It would be nice to find someone to chat with or just go out for a movie. I love doing sport so that would also be a posibility.

If you're interested please just text!!

Have a nice day
Patrick

For those of you looking to make friends or find activities and conversation groups in Montreal, try www.meetin.org and go to the Montreal link. The board is quite active these days. Thus is where I met my close friends in Montreal. Bonne chance à tous!

Hi everybody,

My name is Dave, i'm 24 and i'm from montreal. I spent a couple of months abroad in europe and since i really got used to hang out with different people from elsewhere, I thought it might be cool to try to organise a meeting with people from outside montreal. Would anyone of you would like to meet this friday at the metro mont-royal at 20h to go out for a drink? Could be a nice oportunity to meet real montrealers and practice your french ;). you can send me a confirmation at san_go_ten@hotmail.com hope to get a lot of answers ;)
