Moving To Geneva * Looking for housing options

Postby movingtogeneva » Mon Jan 24, 2011 7:44 pm

Dear All,

My bf and I are relocating to Geneva (from Istanbul) soon. Even though my company hires a consultancy agency who deals with home rental stuff, I heard that it is never an easy task with very limited home supply.
My company also provides a housing fund, around 1500-1800CHZ.

As far as I checked around, there is not a good probability to find a good apartment with this fund, at the city center. Still, since I am moving with my bf, I am more open to check out county options that can be 15-25 minutes far away from the city center. Since I will have a car there, commuting is not a major issue.

However, since we are moving from Istanbul, a crazy city living 7/24, an extremely quite life would make me feel sick. Thus a good balance between 'county life in which you can reach city comforts with a short drive' is a good option.

Knowing that life does not give the best option, your recommendations would help me to find the 'close-to-the-best' alternatives. :) House rental offers, location suggestions...all are very welcome.

The company lets me have a 5 days of house search trip to Geneva, therefore I can prioritize your recos.

Thanks in advance.

EasyExpat has a guide to Geneva (http://www.easyexpat.com/en/geneva.htm) that might be of some help to you getting oriented with the city and your options. It appears you are right to be concerned about the lack of housing and that the "the Union Suisse des Professionnels de l'Immobilier de Genève (http://www.uspi-geneve.ch/) manage about 70% of the letting accommodation in Geneva". The guide also has some thoughtful insight about country v. city: http://www.easyexpat.com/en/geneva/acco ... e-flat.htm

Best of luck!
