Info Family Member (non-EEA) of an EEA Family Permit for UK.

Postby gustavo.rangel » Mon Mar 05, 2007 8:59 am

Greetings

My wife and I need some information related with the Family Member (non-EEA) of an EEA Family Permit for the UK. We were reading the information related with the permission at the UK Visas web site, and we found out that we need to provide some supporting documents with the application. These are our questions:

1- In the web site says “evidence of your employment in the UK or that you can support them for the whole period of their stay in the UK”. How can we prove that my wife can support me for the whole period (which will be approximately one year)? How much is the minimum income per year expected for the UK authorities? Where can I find that information?

2- In the web site says “evidence that you are in the UK, or intend to travel to, the UK”. Since my wife has a job offer in UK, we understand that we can apply before going to UK. So, it is enough to send a copy of the contract? Or it is better that she will be already in UK at the moment that we make the application?

3- Since we got married in Italy, the marriage certificate is in Italian. Do I need to translate this document in English? This translation should be a legal translation or it can be a normal translation?

I appreciate your help

Kind Regards

G & J

It would help to say where you are currently and what countries your passports belong to and when you have to be in the UK.

We are living in Italy, I'm from Venezuela and my wife is Italian. We were thinking to travel to UK maybe in two or three months. Of course, this depends on the Family Permit.

Since you are both in Italy at the moment, financial proof needs to be from Italy in the form of bank statements and/or employment information. There is no minimum balance to show or an amount to prove. What the Home Office is after here is that if they do give you a permit, you will not be depending on UK public funds as these are alloted only to those who need it most. Before I came here from the US, I only gave as evidence my employment information, some bank statements in both names. No employment offer from here. Yet I was given the FMRS."

Yes you can apply before going to the UK. In addition to the employment contract, you can also submit photocopies of your airfare booking/tickets. You are better off traveling together, as what my wife (Eu citizen) and I did when we came here from the US.

Yes you need to translate this, as well as any other non-English document that you have because the Home Office will only deal and understand English language documents. Preferably have this translated by an official transaltor or any government certified translator, and you should be fine.

Hi.
I can tell you that You will wait only few hours, if there are will be no problems with documents. I did it in Warsaw and it took just 4 hours.
Just small advise - try to bring as more documents as possible, pictures with you and your wife together etc.

Ok

The thing is that here in Italy the British Embassy does not do any interview. They just accept documents by mail.

I meet my wife in Venezuela on October 2002 and on September 2005 we decided to move to Italy. Since then we’ve been living together. We got married last January and now we are thinking to move to UK.

The supporting documents for the EEA Family Permit that we can send to the Embassy are

- A rent apartment contract. It was for a short period (Feb 2006 – Oct 2006). We have all the bills and our names are printed on then. This can help to prove that we are living together. Since October 2006 we’ve been living together in other apartment but we don’t have a contract.

- Married Certificate of course.

- My Italian Family Permit, my passport and my wife Italian ID of course.

- Our bank statements and evidence of our employment here in Italy (payments slips, contracts). This can help to prove that we will not be depending on UK public funds. I was asking for the minimum amount that the Home Office is looking after. For example, in the US people must prove that they can support someone at 125% above the mandated poverty line, and here in Italy people must prove that they have about 5000 euros per year to support someone. I know that it is not a big number.

- We have almost 2Gbyte in pictures and our emails since July 2004. I might find the electronic tickets that we use to travel around Europe, but it will be a little bit difficult. This can be also a help to prove that we’ve been together since a long time ago, but to be honest; I really don’t know if it is logic to send all that documentation by mail.

Since I don’t have the Family Permit yet and knowing that I can live in UK without any problem for 6 months, can I rent an apartment with my wife in the UK (with contract and everything)? I mean, we will need a place to live and also this can be another prove to give to the Home Office that we will live together.

Right now, my wife is looking for a job in the UK. We are thinking to travel on July/August. But what we don’t want is that she quit to her job here in Italy, find a job in the UK and then I obtain a refused Family Permit.

We really appreciate your help and all your answers. Thanks a lot
