What is the International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The International Baccalaureate Organisation is practical and application-based. The IB programme offers students an internationally recognizable educational degree. The purpose of IB is to produce global citizens. It is usually offered through private schools around the world. This can be valuable for expat families who may change location as attending a IB school in another country should offer familiar curriculum.

    IB's three programmes covering the following age ranges:
  1. Primary Years Programme (PYP) ages 3-12
  2. Middle Years Programme (MYP) ages 11-16
  3. Diploma Programme (DP) ages 16-18

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the organization is divided into three regional centres:

  • IB Africa, Europe and Middle East (IBAEM), administered from Geneva and Cardiff
  • IB Americas (IBA), administered from New York and Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • IB Asia-Pacific (IBAP), administered from Singapore.
