    Re: hmmm...

Hi, I'm from the US and civilly enjoined to my partner here in Germany. The procedure for gays and married couples is exactly the same. This happned in January, so I know a little about the process...since it's so recent and especially since I'm about to go to the UK for work.

You first need to register with the local authority with a contract from your landlord in hand. You both can register, and voila, you are now a legally registered in Germany. Now, to get the resident visa is another issue. You will need to talk to them about the proper documentation, (i.e., marriage certificate, translated into germany with a stamp, birth certificate, etc.). AFter that, you will get a temporary permit. You then must go for a language evaluation. This is very simple and quick. There are two tracks. The first is the basics. If you speak absolutely NO german, you will required, at no cost, to take a remedial class for two weeks. After that, you will be issued your resident permit, pretty much immediately. If you pass that class, you will get a little form that you take back to the local buro and get your permt. Additionally, if you do speak ENOUGH german, they will give you a certificate to enroll in 6 months of pretty much free german classes, if you want. The requirement, if you want to become a citizen of Germany, is that you pass a special test. If you are only to be a permanent resident of germany and not a citizen, you do not have to pass such test. AFter 3 years, you will still be granted permanent residency.

Now, for my question to ANYONE.... My husband is EEU (German). I am here officially. I have been offered a good job in London. We want to go; however, he wants to stay in Germany for the initial 3 months of my probationary period and not give up his job. Is this doable? If so, if not... what should I do? I don't want to give up my residency here, since in 2+ years, I'll be a permanent resident.

    thanks for ur feedback!

well, sorry for taking long in reacting on this, but we were busy  here i am!
well, the way u say it jsdKoeln sounds like heaven for me! lol, but im afraid is not that easy here in Germany, and if the permit would actually work i would get it for a short time, i guess 6 months or so, still then, we have already decided to go to the UK, and as i was registered as a visitor in Holland, we have to go for my Family Permit to a british office in Holland...
thanks anyway for ur reply and unfortunatelly i dont know how to help u in ur question but hope everything goes allrite with u two :D

    Re: thanks for ur feedback!

Sorry to keep going on about this - but just to re-state (to make sure everybody is talking about the same thing here): there is on the one hand the EU Directive 2004/38 which - when you are in Germany - applies to citizens (and their spouses) of EU member states *other* than Germany (i.e. you and your husband). On the other hand, there's immigration law applicable to partners of non-EU partners of Germans (i.e. jsdKoeln and husband). The rules are different - and it is easier for you than for Germans and their partners (in Germany). It would be the other way round if we were talking about trying to live in Holland.

PS: You would *not* get a permit only for 6 months - you get it for five years first and then get permanent residence.

    Husband of Aurora here again.

I was wondering: Can Aurora and i also go together to England and then find a job or do i have to have a job before i enter there? I understood that i can also apply for a EEA-family permit when i am a jobseeker. but in a sticky topic on this forum it seems i first have to have a job before she can apply for the visa??

    Anyone got an idea?
