It can be difficult to find the best place to live in a new city. This is even more difficult for an expat who is not familiar with the country and culture. So where is the best place to live in Chile?

What do you look for in a neighborhood? What do different neighborhoods offer? What area would you recommend based on:
    - Schools
    - Transportation
    - Access to shops and groceries
    - Nightlife and Activities

Where do you live? What do you like about it? Are there any dangerous areas? Are some areas more affordable?

Thank you in advance for your contribution. This is a very common question for expats moving to Chile and your help is much appreciated.

I love the Lakes region of Chile the best. Mild climate - not to cold in winter or too hot in the summer. beautiful farmland, lakes surrounded by volcanoes, lots of wilderness, not to crowded. Some medium sized cities for the amenities and shopping of city life. Lower cost of living than in Santiago. Because the lakes region was settled by thousands of german families since 1860, the european influence is heavy here. I find the area to be cleaner than some other areas of Chile. it is safer and the people are kinder and more honest.

Many thanks lori.dorchak for your responses. It's always great to get prime experience from expats.
BTW, you will find plenty of other topics on the forum (usually with a [IMG]) where we ask expats to share their experience and opinions on things in Chile.
