Hi all,
Im very new to this forum and hoping someone can assist.

We are relocating - my husband will be starting his new job in Geneva and we would like to live French side. We need an idea of where to start looking for somewhere to live but are totally lost. We have a young baby so will need a creche at some stage in the near future. Is it logical to look for a place to live with regards to where we can get a creche? I have heard creche spaces in Geneva are pretty much non existent?

If anyone could give an idea as to where to start looking for creches / accommodation, that would be a huge help!

We are here to help! Start with the Guide to Geneva. It contains complete information for moving abroad including information about childcare/creche in Geneva & the School System in Switzerland.

The city of Geneva has opened an office for small children (Bureau d'Information Petite Enfance - BIPE). The BIPE helps the parents on choosing the proper care for their child and register the demands for all the organisations certified by the city of Geneva. This service is dedicated for the inhabitants.

People living in other towns of the canton can check availability directly with the institutions on the list of childcare organisations or with the administration of their town.

The http://www.genevefamille.ch website gives a lot of addresses and information on childcare.

The family-nurseries (crèches familiales) organise the care of the child at the home of a certified nurse assistant. Nurses and children spend each day at least half a day at the nursery. They are employed, managed and paid by the nursery.

The city has two family-nurseries
La Flottille (Eaux-Vives sector)
La Pastourelle (aint-Jean sector)

IceBear gave you the maximum of informations to Geneva, it is a real problem for everybody, however,if you or your husband work for a big company or organisation, it would be to ask at human resources Dpt to help you, certains organisations have a deal with nurseries.
