Hi all, I'm working to try to get my husband Polish citizenship. His great-grandparents were both Polish citizens, who arrived in New York in 1929. We have both of their passports issued by Poland. I contacted a lawyer who told me that since the Polish great-grandparents gave birth to my husband's grandma, that grandma was indeed a Polish citizen. However she did not pass on her citizenship to my husband's mother, because you can only inherit citizenship from your father. Is this right? I thought that you inherited your citizenship from your *parent*, not your *father*. There are 4 other Polish-born great-grandparents that we can try, but we have the most documentation for his mother's family so thought it would be easiest to start there. Thanks for your insight, nmarie33
It believe that prior to 1951, Polish citizenship was passed down only via the father. Since you have other possibilities, you might best try to confirm via paternal lineage.
