The best thing is to look for one, once in london.

There are not many pubs plan recruitments ;-) so many people turn up at their door asking for a job that they have plenty to choose from.

Don't know if this will help at all but I'm an American living in London who has worked in pubs and knows a lot of Americans and foreigners who've done the same, and I wonder if you have considered enrolling in a course, like a foreign language course (if you can find a cheap one) or something, and getting a student visa, which will then allow you to legally work 20 hours per week. I am not exactly sure what the requirements are for the student visa, but I believe you have to be a full-time student. There may be ways around this though, as I have worked with many folks who've just done a full-time non-degree or diploma course in photography, etc. for a few months and have been able to work legally. You just bring your proof of enrollment and bank statements or letters of support from you family saying you can support yourself while studying without requiring public funds and present them when you get to immigration at the airport -- or get it processed here in the UK after you've enrolled. Maybe check out www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk. Of course you can always find work under the table, but for a little bit of work in the researching, you might have much more peace of mind and many more employment options. Cheers!

I am an American interested in working abroad (in a job that would require a work permit). Do you know anyone who obtained a work permit, while living in America, to work in London? Any advice would be welcomed. I find that I do not qualify for any of the standard visas, so this would be my only option. PLEASE HELP!
