You already seem to think the French way, congratulations....

You can in fact register for unemployment benefits in the UK, then transfer the UK benefit to any country in the EU, while you are looking for a job.
But you will receive the amount of money you would have received in the UK , in Euros , and this will only be given to you for three months.

And this is EU rules.

If this is right "carte de séjour" was abolished in November 2003 for EU citizen coming to work in France.

if this is wrong, you won't be entitled to unemployment benefits, and you will need a "carte de séjour".
