    HI Jacki

My husband and I (in our mid thirties) along with our two teenage sons, moved to Valencia in November. They're both in International school. The elder boy speaks good spanish but my husband and I took lessons in London and are hoping to continue in Feb. We've managed to hold on to our jobs in the UK - we work for a national newspaper (belonging to Murdoch) - and we're lucky to be able to work as and when we like. So, thankfully, we're not having to rush out to find work in Spain. Maybe if our Spanish improves, things might change. I'd like to start a trendy little coffee shop. Something the Valencianos can't get enough of. All cafes seem to be doing thriving business. But, then again, only time will tell if I'm right.
We decided to hang on to our property in London and have rented a three storied house in Valencia (Mas Camarena). It's a ten minute drive from the centre of Valencia. We may decide to purchase something in a year or so.
As far as getting phones, gas, internet connection - not a single hitch. Everything went smoothly. And, we're loving every minute of our time in Valencia. Having just returned from spending two weeks over the Christmas period in London - my mind is made up. We're never going back!!!!! Let me know how everything goes for you and when you get here, we should meet up for a coffee??

Take care and all the best for the new year.

    Suzie

    Hi laurita,

My girlfriend Jennie and I are both travellers from NZ. We are looking to move to Spain, particularly Valencia, for a bout six months around easter time this year. Ideally we are hoping to find jobs to make ends meet (we both have EU passports) and somewhere relatively low cost to live. Can you recommend anything to us or offer any tips? We are both university graduates and have both been working for a couple of years now, but don't mind doing any kind of work.....ie. from labouring to office work is fine. Our intention is really to learn the langauge and get amongst the culture.

I know you wrote this message a while ago but hopefully you don't mind helping us out, we would be really greatful.

    Kind Regards
    Jake

    Hi,

I¨m from London & have just moved to Valencia, and just came across the “easyexpat..” website. I was wondering whether you knew of any job agencies or newspapers with ads (or companies themselves!) that deal with jobs for english speakers over here. I´ve been learning Spanish and can get by, but am no way near the level of going for Spanish jobs.

Also if you know where to look for “inter-cambio” chats ?!

Any advice would be helpful as I really don´t know where to start!
    Many thanks

It certainly helps to speak at least a little Spanish if you are looking for work around Valencia. Do remember however that the going rate in Spain is considerably lower than countries such as Germany, England .... and although there is much blackmarket work which of course tends to be taken up by those who are working illegally, mainly South Americans, Romanians, Moroccans the rate for that is even lower

    Hi Yola

It is not uncommon to find jobs listed in the daily newspapers (Levante, El Pais etc) looking for English speakers although I suspect they assume you would speak Spanish like a native. Maybe some of the English newspapers are worth a look Costa Blanca News etc

    Hi

We are looking at moving to spain in the next six months, reading your note makes me more determined. I am not naive to think it is all going to be roses, but for some mad reason we can't wait!

We are moving south of Alicante, not yet 100% sure where, we are lucky because my parents already live there near to Torrevieja.

Our main worry is that we have two daughters age 7 and 10 and are really unsure where to start with the schools. We have decided to find the school first, followed by property, not sure if that is the way to go or not! We would really appreciate some advice on how you went about it, with the highs and lows involved and to find out how your children felt about the move and how they feel now.

    Thanks

    Laura

My family (husband, two girls 4 and 3yrs, baby boy and myself) are planning to move to Valencia in September 2004 and we're curious as to an overview of different areas. Which areas do you recommend for young families, which international schools do you recommend. We're going over beginning of May to sort out accommodation and schools but would like to have some kind of idea of what to look for. Hope somebody can help.

Lots of people moving to Valencia. We are hoping to go in July/August this year. My husband is hoping to find work and we have 4 children aged 13,11,9 & 2.
We do not speak Spainsh but are having lessons. Our concerns at the moment are obviously how the children will settle at school, especially the 13 year old, but also if my husband can find work. Any ideas?

    Hi,
I am planning to move to Valencia in July. I have two children, one of which is school age. We are all fluent in Spanish as we spent several years in Mexico. I am concerned however being an American Citizen how difficult it will be to find work.
If you can please help with any information I would greatly appreciate it.
As well I am curious to the cost of housing, schooling, nannies etc.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Baz,

I hope you are enjoying your house in Picassent (Valencia).

What a coincidence, I have a house in the same area. I am a Spaniard myself who actually lives abroad.

I love coming home and one thing I always miss is meeting British people in the area.

I am planning to travel to Spain in a couple of weeks so if you would like to meet up for a cofee or should we say "a cup of tea", please get in touch.

    All the best
    Carmina
