    hello everyone,

I am hoping someone can give me a real answer as I am confused by what I have heard here and there...
I am French (living in UK for 10 yrs) and my husband was recently granted his RC (he is from morocco)... We were planning to go to france to visit my family and until now, I had been told that he needed to apply for a visa to enter france (which wd be free cos I am french and we r married)... A friend of his is in a similar situation (he is married to a dutch woman, he was granted his RC for 5 yrs just 2 months ago) but he was told he did not need a visa to enter Holland if he travels with his wife... they r now gone to Holland for xmas and he has had no problem whatsoever as long as he has the RC...

Now, as far as i am aware, the laws have not yet changed about schengen visa so I am confused as whereas my husband needs a visa or not... I have contacted the french embassy but they only tell me to consult the website, which gives me no real clue...

We r planning to go in feb 2011 but i know it takes at least 3 wks to get an appointment for visa (if he needs to get one)

So to sum up, my question is this one: does he need a visa to go to france or is it like Holland (also in EU) and can he travel without bothering about visa???

any answer will help .... thanks

You can hate the French for it if you want but your husband will need a visa - in practice.

On paper, he doesn't need visa to any EU country if he is traveling with you but in practice it depends which country you are going to. France does require visa.

Unless you are good in fighting your way out and ready to give it a go with the airline check-in staff in UK ( who wouldn't let you board him because of no visa ) and possibly on arrival at French airport ( assuming you pass through the check-in at UK airport ), I would suggest you get a visa to avoid the headache.

    Good luck !

I have same question aswell. Am from indonesia and my fiancee is from Ireland and working in scotland since 2008. We r getting married next month in scotland. I recently get settlement marriage visa uk valid for 6 months but they told me i can switch to spouse visa as soon as we get marriage and have the papers. We've been thinking to travel to ireland after the wedding but irish consulat in indonesia told me i have to make a visa and the biggest problem also i can't make it in UK. Is that kind of mistake or i should ask irish consulat in UK. Because am gonna lived in UK if i have to send all my docs to indonesia and collect my visa in London.. it is complicated and to much job and expensive. my question is.. if its posibble for me to make irish visa in UK? or can i switch my settlement marriage fiancee to EEA family permit after we get married. As we pay for 810 pounds last time just to get this settlement visa :( ... Hope anyone can help and thank you so much. cheers
