    Dear People,

I am a British Citizen and my wife is a non EU Citizen.
Currently we both are residing in Germany.
Myself holding a British Passport, so do not require any Visa to stay or travel within Europe.
My wife on arrival to Germany was issued a EU Residence Card valid for 5 years.

    My Questions -

    1. Does my wife require a Visa to enter and stay in UK (long term & short term stay) ?
    2. Does my wife require a Visa to even transit via UK (by transit I mean just changing planes within 4 hrs for an onward journey) ?

I have been trying to find out answers to these concerns, but could not find out any concrete answer. Please help me by knowing the exact requirements for my wife. The website of World Bridge or UK Border Agency do not provide any concrete information.

    Thanks in Advance.....

    Dear UKCitizen,

Please understand that the residence and citizenship are two different things.http://www.high-net-worth-immigration.com/residency-and-citizenship.html

Even though your spouse has a PR from EU member state, she is still a citizen of a non-EU member country, therefore she needs a visa for entering the UK and any other EU countries, different than the country issued the PR card.

The German PR card is for long stay in Germany only!

It is possible though, she to be able to travel within the Schengen area only with her German PR card; the Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia; and 3 non-EU members are Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.

Certainly, the EU PR card can help her obtaining visa for the UK or the other EU countries.

Different countries have different visa policy; it is very important the country your spouse is originating from what visa agreements has with the rest of the world.

I hope this info was useful for you.
