My best advice for finding a job in the DR is to stick with what you know. There are many that come here and try everything possible to make money and I fear, lose more than they make. I myself have tried different things and found myself using the skills I had previously. For example, an electrican from another country will probably not be able to compete with the cheap labor available in the DR, and lets face it, for simple electrical fixes you're going to call the guy you only pay 250 pesos. However, for an expat building his/her own house, they may be willing to pay the extra for having thier electrical done by someone who provides a higher quality of work. (my wiring has spontaneously caught fire because of shoddy work) So marketing your expertise to expats might be an option for you. This is true of many construction trades.

Working online is also a viable option. elance.com and guru.com provide a platform where job providers and freelance writers, graphic designers, virtual assistants etc of all sorts can meet.

Others teach english either online or in one of the english schools here, or even private tutoring.
