we sent our application on 18th june... they sent his CoA end of july ... in the meantime i had requested my passport cos i needed to travel to france... so they sent a CoA which had no mention for work... we did not worry until i saw here on the forum that it should mention allowed to work or not.. i called again 3 weeks ago and was told to send my passport back with a letter and they wd send us a CoA with work mentioned within 2weeks... LOL
We did not ask for passport back to go to NI interview as i was told CoA is enough..
but at the interview we were told it is not... but as i have on the forum, some ppl have been told otherwise... so i guess it depends who does interview or deals with the application!!!
Hopefully my husband will get his RC soon cos it has been almost 4 months now!!!

my husband also received his NI# letter 2 weeks after his interview, even if we had been told he had limited chances to get it as he had not shown his passport... he is waiting for the card... still no news about Residence card but we were thinking that maybe the jobcentre where we applied for NI number contacted them to check his records or something and they approved cos his application is on the way ... but maybe we r just giving ourselves some hope ...
Been waiting 4 months and 2 weeks now and a friend of his told my husband his mate (from different country though) got his after 9 months...
When i called the HO (a month ago) they said 6 months max but if not, where can we send our complaint if they go over the legal limit???

yes we r married... but i am not sure i trust the HO about their 6 months max... they have told us so many different things every time I called for something... but i guess it depends who u speak to, some r so rude and make u feel like u're bothering them when actually it is our right to get this card after all....LOL

Anyway good luck to u too...

:D Just a little update here for those who r still waiting and hoping it will be quick...
My husband applied for his RC on 18th June and yesterday, 4 months and 18 days later, he received his RC for 5 yrs....
I am not sure how to feel about this cos there were times when we were particularly p***ed off with HO but patience paid off...

I hope this will give hope to all of you who have been waiting... but i would like to say that just 3 days ago, he met 2 guys from his country who have done same process but have been waiting for 9 months and other one for 12 months.... so bear in mind that it all depends on who is in charge of your file at HO.... some r efficient, some dont really bother....

anyway best of luck to all... keep smiling...

    Quick update :

    - I applied for the NI number without my passport ( just the COA ) on the 10th and received it on the 29th :)
    - I rang up the home office yesterday ,and they said that "it's still awaiting consideration " , so i'm guessing still long time to go .

Just checked on other forums. Most people who applied end of July just got their RCs. It seems August applications are likely to be processed just before or soon after Christmas. I'm now tired of waiting. Fingers and toes crossed..

I'm married to an EU citizen. I applied for my EEA2 at the beginning of September, and didn't receive my CoA until the beginning of November (although the CoA was dated early September). No passports yet.

My CoA doesn't state that I have the right to work, but I tried to get a National Insurance number anyway - I had been under the impression that the CoA was sufficient to start looking for a job.
So, I scheduled the NI number interview: it was fine, my lack of passport didn't seem to be a problem (I had a photocopy of it, which they used!), but I got a rejection letter anyway that stated that I hadn't shown proof that I had the right to work. (Ironically, the interviewer kept reminding me that being approved for an NI number did NOT mean that I had the right to work!).

So I'd say that maybe one shouldn't bother applying for the NI number if the right to work is not written on the CoA.. but on the other hand, it might depend on who looks at the application, so maybe worth a try..

good luck to everyone! this is such a long process..

you are right there... but my husband did apply for NI with a CoA that did not mention right to work either but he got his anyway 2 weeks later... so it does depend what other docs u provide them with... we gave so many documents, they had no reason to reject it...
But as u said, it depends who is dealing with ur case...
Best is to wait and apply again once u have the RC... but it can take a while again depending who deals with ur case in HO... some r fast and easy, some just dont care...
    Good luck though ...
