    Hi guys,

my girlfriend, a us citizen, is applying for the flr(m) unmarried partner visa with me. We've lived together nearly 3 years, have 11 documents from 6 sources but one thing is bothering me and i can't find an answer for it! All docs are in joint names except for 3 of the docs that are electricity statements. We both share the same electricity account but scottish power send the bills in an odd way- they come seperately, both addressed to me but using our individual names in the first line of the statement, like this:

    mine:

    mr g d------
    address
    address

    dear mr d------

    hers:

    mr g d------
    address
    address

    dear miss g----

do these count as being in both our names? Without them the docs would be further spaced apart so i'm hoping they count!

    Cheers!

Hmm I don't understand what you wrote to be honest but if these bills have the same address i.e. the one you both live at and the date is also mentioned, then you have nothing to worry about.

    Good luck

    Hi yousafzai,

thanks for replying. Basically, instead of getting one electricity statement per month that says "dear mr d----- and miss g----" we get one each that have my name and our address at the top of both but start with "dear mr d------" on mine and "dear miss g-----" on hers. So the only difference between the two statements we get sent each month is that opening line. Does that make sense?

I'm just trying to work out if the documents we have are ok as the wording on the form is a bit tricky. The documents we're sending are below, do they look thorough enough?

Sep 08 - hsbc joint account statement

    oct 08

nov 08 – scot power elec statement

dec 08 - hsbc joint account statement

    ----------------------------------------

jan 09 – scot power statement

    feb 09

mar 09 – united utils water statement

    apr 09

    may 09

    jun 09

jul 09 – scot power elec statement

    aug 09

    sep 09

    oct 09

nov 09 - hsbc joint account statement

    dec 09

    ------------------------------------------

jan 10 - hsbc joint account statement

    feb 10

    mar 10 - tenancy agreement

apr 10 – british gas statement

    may 10 -

    jun 10 –

jul 10 – eon/united util statement when it arrives

    aug 10 -

sep 10 -eon/united utils statement when it arrives

    thanks in advance.

Yes that bill shouldn't be a problem. It does have the same address which obviously shows you both live on the same address. The documents you have listed are more than enough. If I were you, I would only put the tenancy agreement and the bank statement for joint account and that would definitely suffice but again, there is no such thing as 'too many papers' when it comes to visa applications so its good if you are compiling all of them.

    Good luck

Thanks yousafzai, that's a great help. I was unsure about that electricity bill as i wasn't sure if it counted as a letter sent to us seperately rather than a joint letter as we have a seperate statement sent to each of us. On the flr(m) form it says you need to include a letter of explanation if not all the documents are joint, but i don't know if we need to do that. Any ideas? The form states:

"the items of correspondence should be addressed to you jointly or in both your names. If you do not have enough items in your joint names, you may also provide items addressed to each of you individually if they show the same address for both of you.

Examples of acceptable items are listed below. The documents provided must be originals. Photocopies are not acceptable.

The dates of the items of correspondence should spread over the whole 2 years. They should be from at least 3 different sources.

Please give an explanation on a separate sheet if you cannot provide 6 items; if the items are not addressed to both of you; or if they do not cover the 2-year period."

I guess you are worrying too much. You can put the cover letter to explain if you wish even though I don't think thats needed.

    Good luck
