    One small comment.

According to http://www.maec.es/subwebs/Embajada...cionalidad/Paginas/nationality_emblondon.aspx you will have to give up your UK citizenship in order to be a Spanish Citizen to get your Spanish Passport.

Yep I'm aware of that and fully prepared for it. I have made some progress since I last posted. The link below has two forms I need to fill out and the Spanish Consulate have said they will help me complete the application and with any further help I may need.

I don't know how it works there in the U.K.,but here in Canada I did not have to give up my citizenship. All I had to do was provide my long form of my birth certificate, my parents' marriage certificate, father's birth certificate, his passport at the time I was born, copy of certificate when he received his Canadian citizenship.
Granted, you may not have been in touch with your father for 16 yrs, but what about his relatives? You may be able to obtain copies of the necessary documents through them. If you were to explain to them what you are trying to do and why you are contacting them, they may be willing to help or get your father to come forward and help. Good luck.

gjene the UK is ok with dual citizenship but Spain does not allow them (there are a few exceptions).
