    Hi

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions but this is all very new to me and I'm feeling utterly overwhelmed...

I'm a British citizen currently engaged to an American citizen. We met while she was over here on a student visa which lasted for the 4 years of hr degree. Right now she is in the US and I'm in the UK as her visa has run out and she has her heart set on living here. We are engaged and it seems cheaper to get married in the US (as we don't need a marriage visa) and we're quite prepared to do it in a registry office o the cheap.

    1) Would this automatically qualify her for British citizenship (and therefore the right to work in the UK)? Basically, we just want to be together ASAP but neither of us has much money so we both need to be working.

    2) Do you HAVE to pay for marriage visas in the UK if one person is foreign?

    3) Where can I find details on UK citizens getting to live/work in the US (as a last resort)?

Thanks so much for any replies and apologies again if these are silly questions.

Re: US and UK citizens want to get married and live in the U

That has nothing to do with each other. Once you are married, she can get a spouse visa (in the US), and then she is allowed to work in the UK.

Careful, there are two visas: visit for marriage, and fiance visa. But I agree that it is probably easier to get married in the US. The fiance visa may be an interesting option, because she can then apply for the spouse visa within the UK (which is very unusual).

You are looking at family based immigration, that should be easy (unlike the labour market based immigration, which is currently pretty tough).
