    Hello All,

I am in a unusual situation at the moment and even after looking through thousands and thousands of online sources i still cant see which way i should go.

I am a British citizen and my fiancée is Moroccan. However he is currently living in Germany, and I in France. He also is living in France at the moment with me but will be returning to Germany in the next few months and we are unsure of how to proceed. We would like to get married as soon as possible, due to religious reasons, however are not sure which country would be easiest for us.

Would it be wise to marry in Morocco, seeing as i am half-Moroccan also, or would this cause more hassle further down the line with regards to document translation, application for visa's (if we ever wanted to move to England).

I know i have been a little vague, but as we both do not have any specific requirements of where to get married i would just like to know where people think it is easiest to marry. I personally thought that France would be easiest as we both reside currently reside here, however i read that if i want to marry here i have to apply for a specific certificate before i can marry in France, and then i imagine he also would have to provide various documents in order to marry.

Any information people could provide would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Dear Amal 66

Congratulations - best wishes for a happy marriage. I agree the online sources are a nightmare - I just keep an eye on the stuff relating to Germany and Denmark and so much of it misleading or plain wrong.

One solution would be to get married in Denmark. It is very straightforward and with very little bureaucracy; a lot of Germans marrying "foreigners", & US military marrying Germans, & Australians and South Americans and others come here. The resulting marriage is absolutely valid, although some countries may require an apostille (validation by the foreign ministry - easy enough to check and arrange if required). It is a civil ceremony (usually - can be a church wedding too) which avoids the religious reasons you mention. Your documents (passport, birth certificate, something to prove your single status) will need to be in English German or Danish. Also divorce decrees if applicable. It really is pretty simple. As you are an EU citizen he would acquire residential rights in Germany and UK (this subject gets quite complicated so I'll leave it there - come to back to me if it is an issue).

You could alway follow up with a blessing and party in France (or wherever) later. Marriage in Germany would be possible but for many it is a bureaucratic nightmare. Don't know about France or Morocco - you could check with the British embassy in Morocco, perhaps. Your Danish wedding certificate comes in Danish English German French and Spanish which is handy. Generally, though, a wedding certificate from any internationally recognised country is valid in any other country.

I am not entirely unbiased here - my wife runs an agency for people who want to get married here (www.danish-island-weddings.com) but there are lots of other agencies you can find easily by googling. She looks after all sorts of mixed nationalities who come here to get married - 100% success rate so far!

    Best wishes.

Thanks for your advice, i will keep that in mind. I think it would be a bit difficult trying to convinve the family to come to Denmark, but thanks all the same, with the difficulties i face in other coutries you never know it may lead to denmark :)

    marriage to Polish woman

Hello, I have same kind of situation. I have planned to move to Dublin to be with my girlfriend March 5th. Ireland requires a three moth period of wait between registration and marriage. They also only allow visit up to three months on my American passport. So we would like to get married so that I can stay in Dublin with her and then travel together. Any advice on how we may go about doing so? Thank you

    Hi

See my reply above - if you come to Denmark there is no requirement for residency. You could arrive and depart the same day, fully legally married. I haven't checked the irish position exactly , but they have signed up to the 2004 EU Directive which says specifically that the spouse of an EU citizen has the right to reside (with spouse) in any EU country. Some countries (eg UK and Germany) did add some conditions when they implemented the EU directive, eg showing it is a genuine marriage and being able to support yourselves. If you want to no more do ave a lack at www.danish-island-weddings.com and email or call.

    Hi

I am a polish citizen, my girlfriend is a non-eu citizen. I am planning to go to denmark to study in august and she can only join me in december. I would like to know what are the rules that apply to us, what visa she needs and what we need to do for her to be able to stay with me permamently.
