My partner had been in the UK since 1999 with a student visa studying Law. However his visa expired and had to return to Barbados to renew his visa when he arrives to the UK as his course does not complete until 2010. He had visited Barbados a few times since 1999 ,he recently went back to renew his visa and was advised in barbados and Here in the UK that when he arrives to the UK .he will b given a visa for entry to the UK. however when he arrived to Gatwick South Terminal on 4 October 2008. He was refused entry to the UK although he had all the documents needed. he was interviewed for a couple of hours . i was also asked questions over the phone in Gatwick Airport where i went to greet him on his arrival. I was told by a lady at the immigration office that he would b well looked after and would be put in a room for the night as the next flight bak to barbados was the following morning. i was also told that i would b able to c for a few hours and i would recieve a call from one of her colleages and b told where my partnew would be staying for the night. i did not recieve a call . My partner contacted when he arrived to Barbados and told me how he was treated. he arrived to Gatwick at 6:30 am and had flown back to barbados the following day at 12 mid day. during that time he was not given any food . he was not given any accomodation for the night as i was told he would. the lady that was interviewing him and that spoke to me had gone home and did not refer him to anyone. He was forgotten about and was the only person left in the waiting room(which has only chairs, A small TV and water). he was left there all night and was not offered any food or drink or even somewhere to rest for the night . He was sitting in the waiting room overnight and was treated as if he was a criminal. The staff even forgot that he was flying at 12 noon. he was given cold tuna pasta in the morning . i would like to get a decent explanation why he was not put in a secure accomodation as we were told and promised. i also would like to know why he was refused entry to the UK. i also want an apology for the treatment as i went to barbados a few weeks ago with a british passport and with no visa and was welcomed to barbados .However here it is disgusting the way people are treated. i want an apology from the immigration office at Gatwick airport as it left my partner distressed and hungry. and was unable to sleep on a chair in a room he had been in for over 24 hours. People do not deserve that! he was treated like crap! and disgustingly. i would like to hear from you if you have had similar experience. i would also like to hear advice on what action i should take or if i should take action at all. thanks
Hi there i really feel for you My boyfriend was treated exactly the same coming through Heathrow, they made him feel like a criminal. I went to visit him in America instead in August and was welcomed and treated with the upmost respect. I'm afraid it makes me feel ashamed to be British, has my boyfriend is to scared to travel anywhere else again after the appauling treatment he received off us He will try to visit again on a visitor visa in December, thats if he gets granted it? i really believe that unless hes some sort of rich tycoon then he doesnt stand a cat in hell chance of getting in to visit.
That is seriously atrocious treatment. I would seriously consider contacting the media to shame them.
