    Hi Everyone,
My civil partner and I will be relocating to the UK in the next few months.
I read that in the UK it works pretty much like here in the US where you need to have a good credit history when you apply for a loan, a credit card or a cell phone plan. Now the fact is that here we both have excellent credit histories and a very good credit score. Is there a way to use our American credit scores in the UK? We were thinking to request a copy of our credit report and bring it with us to the UK, do you think we could show it to the banks when we apply for a credit card in the UK or we subscribe with a mobile provider?

Hmm in theory you will need a credit history in the UK.
However, as long as you manage to open a bank account, you might not have too much trouble initially to rent, get a cell phone.
For mortgages (are you thinking about buying straight away???) you might be able to use your US credit score indeed.

Thank you very much for you response.
Well a mortgage for a house is probably the last of our thoughts, but we are indeed worried about being able to rent a place to live or requesting a credit card.
We read that in the UK, like here in the US, unless you pick a sub-lease or a shared accommodation, which is something we want to avoid, real estate agencies run a credit check before renting a place to somebody.
Do you think we can use our American credit histories when dealing with realtors in Britain? Same thing with credit cards- can we bring our credit reports from the US to a bank in the UK when we want to open a bank account or apply for credit card?
    Thanks a lot!

Yes they do, but not finding information does not mean it's worse that finding bad information. So I am sure you will be able to overtake that.

    Sure,
we'll be glad to share our experience with others...
Our situation is slightly different thou as:
    1) I'm not a UK citizen - I'm an EEA citizen (Italy). I'll sponsor my American partner under *EU* immigration regulations.
    2) We are resident of Mass. and got married here. For this reason we are already automatically considered "civil partners" in the UK.
At the moment what scares us the most are not Immigration rules, but instead starting a new life in the UK: find a place to live, get a job, open bank accounts etc.- all things that for you guys are probably easier as your partner is from the UK and knows what life is like over there!
