I am an American citizen currently engaged to a British citizen and we are planning on getting married in the US, applying for a Marriage Visa in the UK to reside there for 1-2 years. (or 6 months to a year )My question is, what is the minimum amount of time we'd HAVE to live in the UK before we could move to another country (such as back in the states) ? Is there even a limited amount of time? I was thinking if any it might be 2 years because thats how long the visa is until you can apply for citizenship I think... anyway I know its in the future quite some time but if we had the answer it'd help. Thanks

    Hi,
I'm not sure I understand your question...
Why should there be a minimum time that you have to spend in the UK?
You'll probably find that it is both a hassle and very expensive to move to the UK. In contrast to countries like Germany, UK authorities charge quite significant amounts of money for spouse visas. If there's no specific reason why you have to move to the UK, why do it at all? But maybe I'm missing something...
As a spouse of an EU citizen, you have many more rights anywhere else in the EU than in Britain (as long as your British spouse is with you) - there's plenty of information about your rights on this forum (the relevant EU Directive is 2004/38 ). And once you have lived somewhere else in the EU for a while, you can both move "back" to the UK with the same rights. So if you are flexible about where you want to live, you can save yourself a lot of hassle. ;-)
    Good luck!
    Sebastian
