Hello All,

For those of us who have been caught in the non compliant practices of the HO wrt the issuance of EEA residence cards within the 6 month limit (as set out in community law), this is your time to speak out for a change!

I am leading a forum regarding this matter and will be lodging a joint petition with the European Parliament, and I would like you all (as well as anyone else you know affected by this issue) to join this movement.

Can you also kindly take part in this poll (and specify your country of origin) as I need to collate factual information for the petition. This is to strenghten the argument that it is unacceptable for the HO to hold our passports for 6+ months leaving us vulnerable with no form of ID for identification and security purposes.

It is relevant to non EEA Family members who have handed in their passports to support their residence card applications and have no other proof of identification (where their country of residence does NOT issue ID cards). As you know this frustrates any efforts to prove one's identity.

Therefore it is imperative that the HO:

1. Returns passports (with temporay work permits where necessary) while applications are being processed instead of keeping them for 6+ months OR
2. Accepts certified photocopies of passports in the interim and then requests originals when application is ready to be processed.

I want to use this poll to further drive home the point that the HO's non compliance to the 6 month timeline/application of the EU Regulations severly affects our abilities to travel, find work, apply for public services (E.G NI number, NHS) without valid proof of ID.

Firstly 86ti, the IDs are in reference to non EEA family members only. Most 3rd country nationals do not have any other form of ID except their passports. This poll is meant to only drive home this point and highlight how vital it is that we are in possession of our passports for identification and free movement purposes.

Secondly I do believe that some EEA Nationals are able to obtain ID cards from their embassies where they reside. For instance my husband who is Swiss contacted his embassy today to renew his ID card for a trip next month (because his passport is stuck with the HO).

 

Thanks for your positive feedback and backing Sebastian. Yes I also think this is a cogent issue. This is especially true for 3rd country nationals whose countries do not use/issue ID cards and have to depend solely on their passports as means of identification, exercising their free rights of movement and access to public services.

At the moment an initial draft of the petition is being worked on. Once it is finished it will be posted on the UK Resident forum http://www.ukresident.com/forums/index. ... opic=70485 for feedback/comments before a final draft is pronounced and joint signing commences. Please keep abreast of this issue in the above forum. Alternatively I can post some info here if you'd prefer.
