My husband (Sri Lankan) is with a 6 month family permit in the UK, he applied the day after his arrival for the residency card, which of courese is gonna take quite a while.
My question now is, is he allowed, to work while he is waitng for his residency card?? (I belive he is,but not to sure) Can he apply for a NInumber? And what, if his Visa runs out and he still doesn't have his resideny card?? Could he continue his work?
Another thing is travelling. Is there a way he can travel to Germany, as I'm German and we would like to see my family? I thinks is not possible, as he would need a tourist Visa for Germany. I don't think the German Embassy will give him a Tourist Visa, when his Visa for England runs out a month after we want to travel, but I still hope there is a way!!

My husband went for an job interview today, he showed his letter from the home office, which confirms he applied for the residency card and is allowed to work. They just took a copy of it and it was fine!!
Now we are waiting for our passports, so he can apply for the NI number. Any idea how long it takes, until home office sends the passport? We called and sent the request fax on Monday.
