    Italian Fiance and Non EU partner

    I am hoping this is the right forum for this, first ever blog!
    I am an Australian citizen who is marrying an Italian passport holder in June this year.
    A job oppurtunity may be arrising for me in the UK IF i can get a work permit. Am I able to get a permit through my partners Italian/EU status.

    Hi!

    It is generally a good idea to start a new topic for a new situation, and I have just done that for you.

    Concerning your question: the European right of free movement does cover you once you are married, but only as a dependent of your spouse. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_to_move or the sticky topics on this forum for details. The magic word is "non-EEA family member".

    So you can only use this route if your spouse moves to the UK with you. Otherwise you need to get a work permit on your own, either from Italy or from Australia.
