I am a software engineer and travelling to UK on WP for 9 months. Me and my wife both are Indian and we are travelling somewhere in March 2008. We are expecting a baby in September 2008. Can you please help me with few things; 1. how easy is it to get the baby delivered in UK? 2. what exactly has to be done to take the baby back to India? I mean all the forms and stuff. And also, how much time does it normally takes? I would be very thankful to you. Thanks in Advance. Varun
When you arrive be sure to apply for your NI (national insurance) number as quickly as possible (You will need residency and a job). Once you have this number you should go register with your nearest surgery and they will be able to schedule you for your first appointment. You may have to be firm because some surgeries will try to not let you register if they think you won't be in the area long. We live in Stanmore and have registered to have our child (due in May) with the Edgeware Birth Centre where midwives will deliver a completely natural birth. As far as returning to your homeland with your new child, I am not entirely sure of the procedures. You should check with the government where you are nationalized (were born). If it is like the UK and USA it means that your child will automatically be a citizen of India, but you will need to register their birth and apply for a passport. Obviously that process will take time and money. This information should be available through the Indian Government. Hope that helps. www.travelnwork.info
