I'm a United States citizen and my fiancée and I have decided to get married. We want to live in Austria for the next year or two, then we don't know where in the EU. She's a French citizen. Is it okay to get married in America or should we get married in France (or Austria)? I want to apply for residency once I am married to the EU but am not sure how it works. I need to be able to work and stay. Any ideas on what to do? I plan on moving right before Christmas.

    Thanks.

Hey, I was. It's very very difficult to explain. But we made our decision. Maybe Italy the following year.

This site is most helpful! Do you know if I can get permanent residency in France since this is where my fiancée is from? If the marriage is done in America, do we need to do anything in France to make it recognized? And when do you get an EU residency card?

This is all I fill out? Do you know where I can get this form in English; I can't read German that well? I really don't want to mess this up and I want this to go smoothly, do you have any more advice or any more tips?

    Thanks

Thank you! How exactly am I suppose to get an EU residency card so I can settle anywhere in the EU?

Where in Europe are you? You're so lucky to be living there.

Well, how do EU citizens have a residency card that lets them go anywhere? That's what I'm talking about...

How do I exercise "freedom of movement" so I can work? If I am reading this right...

Yes you can travel,as you dont need visa(US citizen),but if you were to lets say decide to live in Italy with your partner you`d have to apply again to relevant authority.Residence card issued by Austrians does not give you right to live and work wherever you want in the EU as far as I know.
