I would really like to move to Italy for a year for tourism (ie., skiing and biking) starting August 2008.

I could get married to a French citizen, but we don't want to get married if there are other options.

    What can I do?

And how much money do I need in a bank account for a visa to get approved?

Please help me, I am starting to lose all hope.

NYC. I heard you needed about 500k-1m; though it seems no one can give you a definite answer.

    Thanks

What kind of visa you are after.?
With that sort of money you could move anywhere in the world, no questions asked!

I just want any visa I can get! I'm an athlete (not pro yet, so I doubt I can get an athlete visa). I'd like the Schengen agreement visa; if so, I would apply for a different country and I could then just move to Italy for a year?

I figure I need about 15k to survive for the year since I'll be living with my fiancée. I can't make much more than 15k USD since I'll be racing at Mt. Hood in Oregon December-May every day.

Thanks for the help! Or I could get a visa for Frane through the Schengen agreement and just move to Italy, right?

    Thanks; I am so lost.

Addendum: I just want a visitor visa. No working. I'll be busy skiing and mountain biking in Torino every day and then after, drinking wine and having fresh pasta.

I am not aware of any schengen visa that would give you 1 year contiinious residence.
As I said, you should ask nearest Italian embassy about D type visa.
