Hi maybe someone out there knows about non-EU people in the Republic of Ireland with a Garda Green card (certificate of registration) with "Stamp 4" ? apparently this gives me the ability to work in Ireland without needing a work permit ??

I'm non-EU, in same-sex relationship with an Irish citizen. I had a 2 year IT work authorisation for Ireland (which expires soon). I moved briefly to Ireland where I got my original Garda green card with "stamp 4" I never actually worked in Ireland, and never looked into what stamp 4 meant, because an opportunity soon came for us to live in France (my partner had good job assignment there). Now we're about to leave France, and have been considering where to go/what to do next . While on a recent visit back to Ireland, on a whim we decided to go renew my Irish Garda card, which was about to expire. We didn't think the card gave me any rights for Ireland, but might be good to keep current, just as proof of our relationship.

Well, it was renewed, no problem. and then we looked into what stamp 4 was in Ireland. I guess this means I can work there without a work permit?? I still have my old Irish IT work authorisation, which expires in a couple months. But I don't really want to work in IT anymore, and the renewed garda card/stamp 4 is valid beyond the period of my old IT work authorisation anyway...the Irish immigration people even said they'd renew my green card again when the new one expires! so I guess I got lucky and was given Stamp 4?? I can only think that for some reason the Irish Immigration people did us a huge favour and were sympathetic, because as far as I can tell, there are no provisions for giving residency/working rights in Ireland to same sex couples. From what little I can learn about Stamp 4, it is what they'd give the non-EU married spouse of an Irish citizen.

anyone out there working in Ireland on Stamp 4? We're now thinking of going straight back to Ireland since it appears I won't need a work permit there, but obviously want to be certain about Stamp 4.

Ireland doesn't recognise same-sex relationship. As a result a Resident Permit for a non-EU Member will solely have to be based on a different Legal basis as in your case for Employment purposes.

    i got question

    hi forest.

i am holding a work authorization for engineer as well. i got a stamp 4 on my garda registration card as well. i need to renew it this december. i was wondering. what is your nationality? did the garda renew ur IT work authorization based on your nationality? i read the requirement for renewal of work authorization are another job offer from the same field of your origainl work authorization and your irish tax certificate. did you show both of them to the garda when you were renewing your garda registration card? please give me some info because i am trying to renew mine this year and i am trying to do it right.

    thank you

    Stamp 4 Resistration Card

    Hi Forest,

I am married to an Irish citizen and lived and worked and Ireland for many years. I had a Stamp 4 on my registration card, which not only entitled me to work, but also allowed me to avail of Social Serivces: dole, health care etc.

Unless something has changed in the meantime (my card just expired) Stamp 4 gives you all the rights of an Irish national.

    Good Luck,

    Rose

    Re: Stamp 4 Resistration Card

    hi Rose

stamp 4 including certain people as well. like i mention. work authorization is including in stamp 4. i have stamp 4 on my gnib card. and also i can apply for unemployment benefit, but you see. everyone can apply for social benefits as long as they have worked in ireland 2 years legally before the date they apply for it. i just applied for citizenship last month. the dept justice told me it will take them 3 years to process it now. if i go apply for unemployment benefits, the dept justice will take that into account when they look at my citizenship application, so in another way to look at it. the stamp 4 is useless for some people.

You guys seem like a helpful bunch... tried another forum and was attacked for being youthful and knowing everything... strange what one gets for asking questions and wanting more than a "its too difficult, go to UK" as an answer

Basically, my fiance and I are in SA, he is in the process of getting his German passport. We would like to move to Ireland where he can work, and as his spouse I should be able to work.

Now from what I understand you have to apply for a family resident permit, but all of these seem to be getting rejections on the basis that one has to have proof of having resided in another EU country, which I do not have.

Then I see something about this stamp 4 permit. Now, can I apply for this on the basis that my spouse is EU and then renew it every two years or how ever long its allowed?

And if I can, how long does it take to be processed before I am allowed to work?
