My partner and I have been together for 10 years and have decided to finally tie the knot in Dublin. My partner is an Irish Citizen and I am a non-EEA National and a non visa national. We both currently reside in the UK and have been living together since 2000. Once we are married we plan to reside in the UK.

I am not sure about the formalities- would I need to apply for an EEA Family Permit once we are married? If so, and reading of other experiences posted on the forum, would it be quicker if I applied for this in Dublin as opposed to the UK.

The Family Permit is valid for 6 months, after which any subsequent applications for residence can be submitted...is it complusory that these applications are made to the Home Office in the UK or can I do that in Dublin at the British High Commission or British High Commission in my non-EU home country? I am trying to think of the different options because it seems the H.Office is quiet notorious for delayed applications.

    Pls advise.

    Kind Regards
    M Kelly

It seems you are in the same boat as me. My understanding is that we need an EEA2 residence card i think. Family permit is only for people who are outside the country and want to enter (i.e. either for holiday or to put in an EEA2 resident card application). as you are already here you only need to apply for a residence card.

about applying outside, as far as i understand, you cant apply for a residence card outside of the UK. I may be wrong though
