    Hi,

I am a UK citizen and my wife and child are Australian. We currently live in Australia.

I have just been offered a contract for work in France for 6 months and am required to start in 2 weeks time.

My wife and child will obviously be coming with me to France then.

Can she apply for a 1 year (non-working) visa when she is there? I understand she can stay for 90 days in a 6 month period under the tourist visa.

If she leave the country and goes to the UK for the weekend and then comes back into France, will that suffice?

To apply for the visa in Australia takes 2 months and we only have 2 weeks.

We're also expecting a baby in 6 months time and would like to have it in France. Does she need the resident card/visa to have the baby in France?

    Assistance greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mark.

An immigration agent in Sydney was going to charge me over $3000 to get my wife a visa which turns out to be unneccesary.

    I can sleep soundly now.

    Thanks Triple H.

It should not matter for this move, but your daughter and new child might already be UK citizens, or depending on how you have your citizenship, can be registered as UK citizens within a year of their birth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_nationality_law). I am not sure about babies born in France.

Also, France has finally implemented Directive 2004/38/EC which will simplify the formalities once you arrive. http://eumovement.wordpress.com/info-france/

It is a nice time of year to be in France! Have a good flight.
