I've only just found this website and it seems that it may be able to answer my questions which I have been struggeling to get answer for the past couple of days. My situation is that I'm a 20 year old male living in England who has had enough of being here I want to leave England all together and live with a fresh start in a America mainly some place like New York (yes it does sound like something from a cheesey film). Questions I have are the basics-

How do you go about planning and doing something like this?

Is there any websites which offer work placements? (ones that aren't for students)

Is there anywhere else you can get help to get settled in America eg- accomadation, working, living, citizenship.

I do relaise that I am completely naive about this, and I do know it won't be as simple as getting a plane to the U.S magically landing a fantastic job and a 5 bedroom appartment, but I can't seem to find anywhere that can help me or offer advice.

Any help at all in getting me on the right track will be much appericated!

about moving to the states, especially a big city like new york, cost of living will be high. to go about looking for a job try monster.com, americasjobbank.com, or search craigslist. to find a place to share or rent, craigslist would also be a good idea. you could try looking near college campuses where students are always looking for roommates but i guess you have to choose carefully if you don't want to end up with loud, partying roommates. other areas probably have people looking for roommates also since rent is high. if you need a place to stay for a short period of time before you actually find a place, try looking at couchsurfing.com and other like websites. it's basically strangers who are willing to let other strangers sleepover on their sofa or spare mattress for a few nights (free of charge). also, once you are here try getting together with other brits--it helps the settling down process to know your fellow countrymen who have gone through the same thing so you dont feel alone.

    hope this helps.

dude give up on moving to the US. it is really really really hard. they make it virtually impossible to go over. maybe as a student. but other wise it is not worth all the money and time. i had to move to the uk to be with my husband after 10 months of waiting for a husband visa and it took long and too much money... and they lost most of his paper work. i just gave up and moved to the uk instead. my father has connections and it was still impossible to get my uk husband over.
