I have already been granted a fiance visa for the UK and plan to move there in mid November to live with my fiance. Our plan is to have the wedding in a few months, and then after that I would get a work permit and look for a job in the UK. Interestingly, a few weeks after I was granted my visa and bought my tickets to go to the UK for 13 November, my former employer - a US company with a UK location - got wind that I was planning to move there and they are now offering me a job. They are willing to sponsor me for the work permit because they want me to start ASAP, which is great because I have no intention of moving up the date for getting married. I am worried though that the fact I already have a fiance visa will cause issues with getting a work permit through the US company. Does anyone know what issues this situation might present?

    Hi,
It's better for you to go with fiance visa and then get the residence permit through marriage than getting a work permit. Why?
Because with the marriage visa you will get the permanent residence in 2 years, and then will be able to get a british passport too.

If you go with a work permit, it will take 5 years until you get permanent residence status. And this work permit will be valid only for the current job. You will not be able to change jobs without getting a new work permit, etc...

You better be in the flexible side and go with the marriage visa - you never know how the market is, and if you have a marriage visa your employer will know you are flexible and if you get a better offer you may go! But if they know you depend on them to stay with the visa, they may not give you proper pay rises, etc...

Glauco, the point here is that poster wants to work from the moment she arrives. She cant do that on fiance visa, thats why need for a work permit.
Once married she can apply for spouse visa, which supersede any work permit given.
