    Hi,

    I've looked around the net for help, and I've failed, I really hope you guys can help me on this.

    My Fiancée is about to apply for a fiancée visa to enter and marry in the UK. I'm really stressed about it, and would really love some advice.

    We have known each other 20 months, and have met each other 4 times (at 2-3 weeks at a time).

    She has given me a list of docs I need to hand to her,

    1. My UK Birth Certificate (copy)
    2. A supporting letter from my employer
    3. 6 Recent income slips
    4. Bank account statements (current and savings)
    5. My ID page of UK passport (copy)
    6. A supporting letter from myself

    ----

    I believe the copies need to be notarised, but I wondered...can i send the originals instead?

    Also, any advice would be great.....

    Well, thanks for the overwelming response.

    We have just sent off the application, and this is a breakdown of what I provided.

    1. My Original UK Birth Certificate (Small and Large Official Documents)
    2. A supporting letter from my employer (confirmed Annual income of 30,000);
    3. 6 recent income slips (Feb 06 to July 06)
    4a. Current Bank account statements for past 6 months showing income;
    4b. Savings account statement since open (July 2006);
    5. My Original UK Passport (showing stamp on entry to Canada)
    6. A supporting letter from my landlord confirming her stay in my accommodation is fine;
    7. Print outs displaying phone calls since March 2006. These do not include calls instigated by partner.
    8. A letter detailing our past and future intentions.

    She has provided much of the same from her end, plus proof of over 10,000CAD in savings...also pictures of us together on our visits.

    The application was sent on Monday. I'm so very stressed. Have I provided enough info?

    I usually dont "interfere" if people know what they are doing,in this case for instance.
    I think you should be fine.
    Good Luck

    A little encouragement works wonders :)

    I hope so too. She seems to think it will take two weeks, longest fortnight in my life :)

    question about the wait time for the visa

    Hi Midgestfista,
    Your posts here have been a huge help thank you. I noticed the wait time for the visa was only a matter of a week or so. Is this correct? It seems you had everything well in order beforehand and I am sure that helped the process. I am currently in the Uk and and concerned about having to return to Canada to apply for my fiancee visa...I don't want it to take months or worse..that I won't get to come back. Any help you can offer in terms of time frame and what was involved from your fiances point of view in Canada..is greatly appreciated. For example did they go to Ottawa and apply directly or did they mail the documents?

    thanks alot.
    Tori

    Re: question about the wait time for the visa

    Glad I could help.

    She lives in Corboug, Ont. She rang the Visa place before sending the documents, and basically checked she had everything she needed.

    In addition to what I sent, I believe she sent :

    Her Passport, Birth Cert, and Canadian Proof of Nationality (She's Dual US and Canadian...after moving there 10 years ago).
    Pictures of us.
    Proof of contact.
    Proof of savings.
    Letter of intention.

    She also told them the date she planned on leaving and did NOT provide proof of a travel booking.

    We sent off the application on a Tuesday, and heard back about 11 days later via Email. The email was from "OTTAZVisaInfo@fco.gov.uk" and basically stated

    "> Your application has been approved and the visa has been issued. Please
    > allow a minimum of 3 working days for your documents to be sent to you and
    > also before tracking your package with our office.
    >
    > It will be delivered by Priority Courier. Priority
    > Courier:www.canadapost.ca

    All the original documents were returned to her the day after, with the visa stapled into her passport. I'll ask her for a definate list of what she sent, and how she contacted them if you like. Any other questions, please ask.

    In addition, there is LESS emphasis on the Canadian end of the process, as it's the British side who need proof that you can sustain yourself there. I suggest getting your partner to collect up everything that I did.

    I bound it all very professionally, and printed it on high quality paper. It's worth the effort. This is the ONLY thing these people see that gives an impression of your character. Make your letters sincere, but professional and design the package well. A bunch of papers throw together create a sloppy half arsed impression.

    Thank you

    Thanks so much for your help. I feel so much better now. I will follow your advice and assemble everything the way you suggest. I appreciate the help. It has been such a stress for us wondering if it would take months to get the visa. We will start getting the documentation right away. Any further info or advice from the Canadian side is appreciated, though I think I have the idea now of just what we are in for and what we have to do.
    Take care, Tori
