She needs a tourist visa.Go to nearest British embassy and ask for one.My guess is that you could exercise EU LAW(I am not 100%if British would treat you as such).If so just passports medical insurance for your wife and marriage certficate needed.

 

In theory, for a Schengen visa that's how it works, but if they choose not to follow the law, there's little you can do in the short to medium term. The new directive on free movement that came in in April this year makes things clearer, which may help.

You really have to emphasise at all times that she is simply accompanying you - in the application form, she can just say "accompanying spouse" in the purpose of visit box. You'll need to make sure that the consulate you are applying to will accept your proof of marriage. This is the main area where they can legitimately delay or deny her a visa.

For Britain, I suppose you need a visit visa for her, though if you are established as a resident in Switzerland, you may be able to apply for a (free) EEA permit. Not sure it that applies to Swiss residents. I got my wife a visit visa without any trouble - just a day or two. Schengen took 12 months, and an extra two months to get the fee refunded (got it yesterday).

 

I think your case was just exception not the norm.Very unfortunate I would add.
