We got married in the USA and moved over to the UK after I got my Spouse visa settled. We're thinking of moving to the USA in 3-5 years after I've gotten dual citizenship. Can somebody give me a link with information regarding what I should do to get my Husband (uk cit) to the USA? :)

    Thanks for your help :)

Would you mind sharing your experience getting married in the US and then settling in the UK? I hope to do the same and am a little confused about the process......to say the least!

I'm a US cit, and my boyfriend UK. We hope to do a Vegas style wedding this winter, and I'm a little worried about getting hitched on his Visa Waiver Program. It doesn't seem like the US has a Visitor for Marriage visa like the UK does, am I correct? Is the K-1 visa our only option? What did you and your honey do?

We are currently in the UK and plan to go to the US for the holidays with my family and will make a trip to the British consulate in Los Angeles to sort my Spousal Visa after Elvis walks us down the aisle. (It seems to me this is the sensible way to go and will save a lot of money in the long run, skipping the UK's fees for Certificate of Approval for Marriage, Fiance visa's etc. not to mention the increasingly expensive trips across the pond to file all the paperwork, travel insurance etc etc.)

As far as your question is concerned, from what I can tell, I think the K-3 visa is the one for you.

    Cheers!

heh, I know it seems a bit funny, and unbelievable, but all that we did was take a vacation in the States :p

I had been in the UK since December 22nd, 2005 after having missed my flight in January due to car trouble. My Fiance at the time had planned on coming to visit in March of 06 anyways, so I extended my stay and Flew to the USA with my fiance on March 18th. We talked quite a bit before the flight and had decided that it would be easiest for us to get married in the US and then spend our honeymoon in the UK, after which I'd leave to go back to the USA to take care of the Visa.

Basically, we arrived in Illinois on the 18th of March, went to the courthouse on the 21st and obtained a marriage license. Illinois has a 24 hour waiting period, so we got married on the 23rd of March. You can easily look up the Marriage license laws and restrictions for each state on the internet.

We left the USA on March 25th, to go on our "honeymoon" which effectively was just a small white lie, we never had a honeymoon, we were too busy frantically searching for somewhere for us to live, so we wouldnt have any problems with the Visa application. No such luck finding a good place. We decided to just accept my Inlaws offer to stay with them till we found suitable accomadation. I flew out of the UK on June 1st and applied for my Visa on the 9th at a Consulate General. I walked away that day with my visa in hand, kicking myself because I had to wait till June 30th to go home to my new husband. If possible, I'd suggest getting married and doing the whole visa process in the same trip if you can, but make sure you're prepared, if you comb the Europe forum here, you'll get all the information you'll ever need :) Also, once you get settled in the UK, you'll want to get a job, obviously. I suggest registering with recruitment agencies and just start applying. You'll need to make an appointment to obtain a national insurance number before you can recieve pay properly.

Also, if you're fretting about ticket prices and things, My husband and I just got round trip tickets from Manchester to Chicago for less than £800 since the prices have gone up a ton!

We always find good deals with Cheaptickets.com and AA.com

    Good luck :)

    By-passing the K1...

So Seraphina, you got married to your husband in the US without ever getting K1 (maybe it didn't exist then), and 'longwayround' you are hoping to do the same, but are worried about it.
That is my position as well. I am wanting to marry my US girlfriend. I am already here in US and we are wondering if we can just go down to the courthouse and do it right now. Or do we actually have to have the fiancee visa?

Then, once married, do you think I'd have to leave the country again while my wife (that sounds weird) petitions for K3 for me?

It's all so wierd and convoluted. 'Longwayround' are you going to try it (coming into US and marrying)? Does anybody else have any recent experience of doing this without K1?

We plan on following Direct Consular Filing. In London. This seems the easiest of all the options available to us in regards to the upcoming future.
