✎ EN EEU national with US spouse moving from US to Spain

    Hi

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    I am an EU national (UK passport) currently resident in the US. I am moving back to Spain early next year and wondered what paperwork my US spouse needs to complete, if any before we resettle.

    Since I am an EU resident, is it possible for us to arrive in Spain as "tourists" for me to apply for a residency permit on arrival, and then my spouse to apply for residency and a work permit at the same time, or do we need to organize everything before we leave the US?

    Under current European legislation, dependants of EU nationals already living in Spain or those wishing to take up residency with their EU spouses, who are themselves holders of passports of any other state outside the EU, may now apply for a residence permit in Spain, without applying for a visa prior to their departure.

    Great - thank you for the advice and the very informative link. I also then assume that there is no issue with the spouse being able to obtain working papers?

    Yeah,should not be.I am not familiar with Spanish immigration system thought.
    If I was you I would double check everything. ;)

    Hi,

    Your spouse is non-EU, so her residency process will be different from yours. I suggest you read through the thread given below, as one of my posts there lists documents required by non-EU spouses of EU citizens for residency.

    Make it easy on yourselves!!!

    Hi, saw all these postings, I am a US Citizen and do things the American way, I have hired an Attorney specialized in International I did everything for me I can not remember the name but the law firm is at http://www.spain-usa.net

    It is not cheap but is sure!!!
