    Good morning everyone,

I have a few questions I would like to submit to all of you first before checking with the townhall and immigration services.

I'm a French national married to a non European (Egyptian). We've been in France with our young son (who is French and American) for about one year. My husband has a 10 year French Carte de séjour which states he can work in France only. The problem is that his French is limited while he speaks very good English and we just can't find him work over here even though he's very well educated and really experienced in many fields such as hotel management, auditing, sales, etc..
We would like to move to the UK since it would be easier for him to work there and would also be easier for me since I want to run a business and the charges in France are very high compared to the UK. I also love the UK and I lived over there for 10 years.

I have 2 questions which are the following:
Does my husband need a visa to work in the UK or is there another way for him to be able to be legal in the UK considering I'm a French citizen?

Also, my husband wants to apply for French citizenship which will take about one year. Can he do so while working in the UK?

Thank you very much for your feedback and any reference material you may be able to provide.

    Hazel

Thank you very much for your prompt reply and the information provided.

Would you happen to know if my husband can still apply for French citizenship if we are to move to the UK? I didn't find this info on the page you referred me to. This is important to us in so far as this would allow my husband to become European once and for all.

Also, although I worked in the UK for a very long time, I don't have any proof of it here in France because I travelled all over the place to the US, Egypt and France.
Basically before I left for the US I left all my official docs and most of my belongings in the UK 6 years ago with an ex who wasn't kind enough to forward them to me and probably trashed everything. What should I do, contact Income Tax?
The story is also complicated since I changed my name while being in the UK for personal reasons. To cut a really long story short, my boyfriend at the time was mentally ill and I couldn't visit him unless I had the same family name so I went to a lawyer and changed my name. This means I worked under 2 different family names. (Oh GOD! The things some of us do when we're young!)

Thank you again for your help. You're incredibly efficient!

    Hazel
