my husband and i along with our three children 12years,6years and 4years are planning a move to the valencia area next year. we are visiting the area at the end of august, to find a property and look at the location of schools, we would really appreciate any advice on good schools in the area, and the type of work available to the english ( i am learning spanish)
we would like to live in an area where there are other english families perhaps with similar age children, this may make the move easier on the kids.

    thanks very much

    karen :)

I had a look at that MSN group. I found the only problem was that unless you agree 100% with their managers your message will be deleted. Have a look at how many have been deleted.

I think it is just a place where a small few people log on with a host of different names to make it look busy because as soon as one person posts something a whole host dive in to reply. they must sit at their computers clicking refresh all day.

Look at the posting from flowing spirits to see what I mean.

I think they operate from an estate agents office trying to display the virtues of living in Lliria to boost sales.

    i found this website www.lliriavillas.com

Surely it's a good thing that people "dive in and reply" as you put it.
It is not connected to an estate agents it is purely trying to give help and advice to people who are interested.

I found a good website that seems to allow people to express their views rather than just have the view of the forum owners who is a brown noser to a local estate agent.

    it is http://www.valenciaexpats.com

by the way, I think you will find Gina is a manager of the group she is recommending, which is based around a local so called estate agent who has quite a reputation as Gina uses an email address Laraineinspain@yahoo and a Larainepowell is a manager of the MSN group. A SMALL WORLD EH ?

Parrot - you are obviously eddie the sad guy that runs and writes all the posts on valenciaexpats. Go visit and note the front page, not a very welcoming message is it? Look at the amount of posts per week, considering there are at least two new members a day!! Well I suppose you have to make new members so they can click the adverts, eh eddie?

As for being in the pocket of estate agents, there are plenty of forums that advertise estate agents and have free posting, can you say that about your forum where posts await approval? Let's face it eddie, if anyone says anything positive about Spain or an area they live in then jan, mell44, andee and a host of your pseudonyms jump in on the attack denouncing the poster as an estate agent or a 'brown noser'.

What happened eddie, were you a bit thick and got ripped off by a nasty estate agent? Grow up and get over it you silly little boy. lol!

    Hi, Crystal!

I agree with you totally! This eddielarge (or parrott, or however he calls himself) is a sad little man, I experienced his nasty ways when I wanted to post an ad on his website. There was no price list anywhere, or even a mention that you had to pay to post ads, but after I submitted mine, he sent me a private message demanding 75 euros. As you know, there are so many fraudsters on the internet, so I wanted to make sure the claim was genuine, by asking other users if there really was a price to be paid.
Obviously, because he checks every message (even personal ones) before publishing, he didn´t publish mine, probably worried to be found out.
As I didn´t hear anything else, I just let it go, and answered another post related to the one I wanted to publish in the beginning.
Then, to my amazement, I recieve another message from mr eddie, that reads something like this:
"You have continued dealing even though you have been told you have to pay. THERE IS A PRICE FOR THIS, UNDERSTAND??? TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!"
(Sorry for the capitals, but that´s how he wrote it!)

I couldn´t believe it! It sounded to me like Vito Corleone or some other mafia boss! So I answered him by telling him this, and other things I thought of him and his ways. But never insulting him, as that´s not like me, I hate insults and swearwords.

Guess what happened when I tried to log into the "valencia expats" again, to see if there was a proper answer or an apology from him? A message written in capitals saying: "no bitches with big holes allowed, sorry"
   ??:
First reaction was shock... a web administrator using such foul language with a user??? Then I just had to smile. Well, really you can´t expect much more from this type of people, can you?

So I just wanted to join you and other people that have had trouble with this man, and advise everyone to be very careful if they want to visit that site, he´s breaking many conduct codes on the internet, and also trying to make money in a very strange way. Everyone knows that when you have a legal business where you charge for services, there has to be a proper price list available to everyone, together with detailed information about methods of payment.

I´ve also been to other forums, and I wasn´t surprised when I read all the bad press this individual has.

Anyway, I´ve wasted enough of my time with him.

    Wish you all the best.

    Cris

    ;-)

It's a great shame the site has turned out to be run by a paranoid, Spain hating, thick, rude little boy.

It had great potential, if only he had left it alone and just concentrated on the quality of services and programming content. 'Eddie' has obviously never heard of shared IPs and thinks he is tracing people and identifying them - prat!! If anyone really didn't want to be traced 'Eddie', they would use a proxy server.

I also started questioning the 'membership', pointing out that many different posters were using the same spelling mistakes. That was censored and I realised that it was 'Eddie' who was actually writing to himself all the time under the guise of many different pseudonyms.

    Poor Sod.

Although I am also banned (for being too intelligent it seems), it's easy to get back on by deleting the cookies and using a proxy server or manually changing your IP to look like you are in another country. Easy stuff Eddie but I really can't be bothered.

    So  and good riddance.

It is not quite true what you say about IP addresses and cookies. There are systems that use totally different methods to track users although some of the methods are not totally foolproof.

It is so easy to produce scripts which capture information from the users browser such as which version of internet explorer, windows media player, windows they are using, down to the screen resolution, number of colours, language and a host of other data. Take these things in combination and it narrows it down a bit.

Another crafty is to do redirects so a site which may use a cookie that has no relationship to the domain you are browsing. Microsoft do this with MSN, hotmail and various other of its domains. Basically they can pass your information about without you even realising, through internal webserver redirects. Anyone interested in the full mechanism can do a search and read all about it.

Something else that people do not realise is that although their IP address may not be fixed, they will always be allocated one from a small pool depending on which port of their provider their service terminates on. For example, you may find every time you connect you get an ip address in the range 81.31.*.* through to 81.35.*.* . It narrows it down quite a bit.

A combination of those things makes it quite easy to narrow things down even if users have cookies turned off.

I work for a company who produce turnkey systems which employ very advanced technology to capture browsing habits irrespective of the usual variables. It is necessary in the systems that we produce to track things
such as fraudulent credit card transactions.

So perhaps the clever ones of you out there are not 100% as smart as you thought. Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but someone has to put the armchair experts right
