    Hi

I am planning to move to London sometime by Sept. My company is transfering me with an salary offer of GBP 65k. I do not know whether this is a good package, though one thing I know for sure is London is way too expensive than NYC.
I make 80k in NYC and commute for 30 mins to work, pay a rent of $1900 and am a wise spender. I am able to make a decent saving as a sole earner in the family of 3.

Can someone please comment whether this offer should be good enough for me to manage in London. I plan to rent a 2 BR apartment in zone 4 or 5 on northwest side. I know the taxes in London are 40% (compared to 28% in US) and the VAT is 17.5 (compared to 6%)

Please feel free to add any other details that I may be missing.

    Thanks much.

    K

65K means about 3500 GBP after tax per month. Living in zone 4 should cost you about 1200 GBP pcm I guess (just a guess) but you might have to spend a bit more for commuting (very expensive), healthcare for your family, pension,...etc (some of that should be included in your company benefits package).

Thanks for your reply EasyExpat! I also wanted to know how many vacation days are given (on an average) in UK. Is it absurd to expect a paid vacation of 30 days?

Minimum is 4 weeks. But some companies give 5 to 6 weeks (like HSBC).
